Wayward Magazine is a tangible resting place for the stories embedded deep in the chasms of outdoor lovers’ minds. Weathered, calloused fingers can thumb through writing, scanned journals, poetry, art, and musings that authentically tell a story of raw physicality, unwavering stoke, and what it means to be a curious, free, wayward spirit. The interplay of unique inconsistencies from page-to-page, coupled with the underlying connection point that inherently brings us— the surfers, the climbers, the thru-hikers and bike-packers, the high liners and runners— together, makes this magazine unique in the landscape of the outdoor media industry.
The publication was born from one passionate climber’s brain, who is on an endless life pursuit to uplift print media and connect and document inspiring individuals, their stories, and the creative perspectives that arise in outdoor spaces that make every one of us so very human.
The Origin Story
Angie Stevens
In 2026, she graduated from California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo with her Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism, and minors in Environmental Studies and Photography and Video. She worked as a music writer and disc jockey at the radio station, and has reported on an array of environmental and sports-related stories.
Driven to merge her interests in rock climbing, adventure, and stewardship, Angie is committed to engaging, truthful, long form storytelling and high-quality print design.
When she’s not working on personal print endeavors or writing for various outlets, she is out climbing in the Eastern Sierras and Yosemite Valley, surfing and biking along the Central Coast, or taking nice, long naps at the crag.
